Simple Bulky Slouch Beanie

Looking for a super simple, quick to make, warm and snugly, slouch beanie? Here it is. Knit up in a bulky weight – Cascade 128 Superwash Merino Wool, this one is so squishy soft and warm with beautiful stitch definition especially after the first wash. A long hem and wide circumference make it cozy and stylish, and keeps your ears nice and warm too.

A quick decrease at the crown gives the beanie that awesome slouchy look. This yarn has an awesome weight to it that gives the slouch a nice drape. But, if it’s a really chilly day it is long enough to fold the brim, skip the slouch and wear it snug for extra warmth around your ears and the top of your head.

The Pattern

Yarn

Cascade 128 Superwash Merino Wool, you can find this yarn at Love Crafts (see affiliate statement above)
Weight – Bulky (5)
Amount – 1 skein (128 yards)
I used the colour Rainier Heather for the hat in the photos

Needles and Tools

• US10 (6.0 mm) 16″ circular needle
• Set of US10 (65.0mm) Double Point Needles (DPNs)
• Stitch Marker
• Darning Needle

Gauge

4″ (10 cm) = 15 stitches in stocking stitch (knit every round)

Size

Adult/One Size
Circumference fits between 22″-24″ (56-61 cm), length 10.5″ (26 cm)

Abbreviations

CO – Cast on

DPNs – Double point needles

K2tog – Decrease 1 by knitting the next 2 stitches together

KFB – Increase 1 by knitting into the front and back of the next stitch

Instructions

CO 72 stitches with US10 (6.0mm) circular needle

[K2, P2] repeat to end, place marker and join round

Work 15 more round of K2, P2 ribbing

Increase Round: [K5, KFB] repeat to end (84 stitches)

Knit 27 rounds

Begin Decrease Rounds – switch to DPNs when needed

Next Round: [K5, K2tog] repeat to end

Next Round: Knit

Next Round: [K4, K2tog] repeat to end

Next Round: Knit

Next Round: [K3, K2tog] repeat to end

Next Round: Knit

Next Round: [K2, K2tog] repeat to end

Next Round: Knit

Next Round: [K1, K2tog] repeat to end

Next Round: [K2tog] repeat to end

Cut the yarn and run it through the remaining stitches and into the center of the hat with a darning needle. Sew a couple stitches on the inside to keep from getting a hole in the center.

Weave in loose ends

Hand wash and Block
note: superwash takes a little longer to dry than regular wool and it may seem a little stretched out when wet, let it air dry after the first wash though, it’ll be worth a wait.

Hey. If you are looking for something more lightweight check out the pattern for my Simple Summer Slouch Beanie, awesome for warmer weather wear. It still knits up quick and easy with a bulky weight alpaca/wool blend but the yarn is super light and fluffy.
