Faux Fur Heart Pillow

Free Knitting Pattern

I had so much fun making my little wool hearts this year.  I thought I would try out a larger version in a fun pink faux fur.

Hey Readers, the following post contains affiliate links.  I may receive a small commission if you click and purchase from one of these links (which honestly, I’ll probably use to buy more yarn and design more awesome patterns to share with you).  I only recommend products that I already use and love, thank you so much for your support.

The yarn is Fable Fur from Knitpicks (affiliate link).  It is a soft and cuddly super bulky weight faux fur yarn that works up really quick on size US11 (8mm) needles.  I used the Volpe colour which is a pale pink on the tips of the fur and darker on the strand giving it a cool ombre effect that reminds me of cotton candy when knit up.

Using a faux fur yarn can be a little bit tricky.  It’s a little like knitting in the dark because you can’t see your completed stitches.  You have to count your way through the pattern and make sure keep track of where you left off.  The bonus however is that it is very forgiving, and your stitches will always look even (because you can’t see them) and your project will work up super fast.

I wrote the pattern to work up in one skein with a little left over (so you’re not playing yarn chicken).  I think it would’ve been awesome to make it even bigger, that might be a project for next year.

Cut yarn and run through the remaining stitches with a darning needle.  Sew a couple stitches to secure and run through the center.  Weave in loose end.

Stuff bottom and finished top half of the heart.

Split stitches on holder across 3 DPNs, 15 stitches on 1st needle, 7 stitches on 2nd, 8 stitches on 3rd

Rejoin the yarn to work the remaining stitches leaving a 10” tail (you’ll use this to sew closed a gap later)

Stuff the rest of your heart, making sure the sides are even

Next Round: (K1, SSK, K5, K2tog, K1) repeat

Next Round: K2tog x9

Cut yarn and run through the remaining stitches with a darning needle.  Sew a couple stitches to secure.  Run your needle through the center and weave a couple stitches then go through some stuffing and out the side of the heart. Tug the yarn and trim so the loose end gets lost inside.

There should be a small gap in the v of the heart.  Use this to add stuffing or re-arrange if needed.

Use the tail yarn from the re-join to sew the gap closed.

Weave in loose ends, tug and trim.
